55-65 cm, white in appearance with a dark red beak with tubercle in the male. Present throughout the year, it frequents areas subject to tide and valli di pesca (local name:fishing reserves). It has undergone a significant increase in the last 20 years and is now an obvious presence in many areas of the lagoon. Normally not present far from the coast. The pairs are stable and both parents take care of the young.
